Tucker Selected to Serve on BPS Specialty Council on Nutrition Support Pharmacy

tucker12.jpgUHCOP Clinical Associate Professor Anne M. Tucker, Pharm.D., BCNSP, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) Specialty Council on Nutrition Support Pharmacy beginning in January 2012. Tucker, a commended critical care nutrition support specialist who has a practice site at Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, has been a Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist (BCNSP) since 2003. Tucker was nominated for the position by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.


SNPhA Chapter Wins Third Consecutive Grant from Target for Community Project

snpha-logo.jpg The UH chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association has received its third consecutive grant from Target for $2,500 in support of the chapter's "Health Screening of Underserved and Underrepresented Minorities" project. The funds will support the chapter's purchase of screening supplies and equipment for a springtime community health fair in an underserved area of south Houston. Under the supervision of Target volunteer preceptors, chapter members have provided a range of health screenings and educational outreach to hundreds of people at the event for the past three years.


Alumna, Student Elected to Regional Leadership Offices in Kappa Psi Fraternity

clay-wang.jpgUHCOP alumna SueAnn Wang, Pharm.D. ('12), pharmacy manager for Wal-Mart, and Pharm.D. student Bobby Clay have been elected Regional Satrap (President) and Vice Satrap (Vice President), respectively, for the newly realigned Southwest Province of the Kappa Psi co-ed pharmaceutical fraternity. Wang, a member of the fraternity's new Houston Graduate Chapter, and Clay, a member of the UHCOP Delta Delta collegiate chapter, were elected at the recent Kappa Psi province meeting in Dallas. The UH Delta Delta chapter will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013.


Inaugural Class of 5 Students Complete Pharmacy Administration Ph.D. Program

pharmad-phd-group.jpgUHCOP will graduate its first cohort of Pharmacy Administration doctoral students in December. The first graduates of the program are Debajyoti Bhowmik, Abhishek Chitnis, Nilanjana Dwibedi, Pravin Kamble and Sandhya Mehta. All five also are graduates of the college's master's program in Pharmacy Administration. Four members of the inaugural class have secured research positions in the pharmaceutical industry, while the fifth graduate has accepted a position in academia.


College Support Staff Member Receives Honor for UH Staff Council 25th Anniversary

mauthner-web.jpgUHCOP's Shari Mauthner, M.S., instructional designer, has been honored among the "25 Staff for 25 Years" in celebration of the UH Staff Council's 25th anniversary. Mauthner is a three-time Cougar, having earned master's degrees in Occupational Technology (Human Resource & Development) and Curriculum & Instruction and a bachelor's degree in Information Systems. Currently serving in her second term on the UH Staff Council, Mauthner served as chair of the UHCOP Staff Advisory Council for two years and has volunteered her time for such university initiatives as the Cougar First Impressions new-student ambassador program and UH March of Dimes Walk.
