Fleming Wins APhA Award for Project on New Online Drug Monitoring Program

Fleming, Ph.D., MPH, R.Ph., was recognized with a Post-graduate Podium Presentation Award at the 2013 American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting March 1-4 in San Diego. Fleming was recognized by the Academy of Pharmacy Research & Science’s Economic, Social and Administrative Sciences Section of APhA for his project entitled, "Using the Theory of Planned Behavior to Predict Pharmacists’ Intention to Utilize a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Database." Sponsor, team and individual player online registration for the 2013 UHCOP Golf Classic on June 3 at Wildcat Golf Club is now open. Sponsorships are available at the Platinum ($5,000), Gold ($2,500), Silver ($1,000), Red & White ($500) and Cougar ($100) levels, and individual player spots are $150. All proceeds from the tournament benefit Pharm.D. students in the form of scholarship awards. Read More.

College Hosts Pharmacy Summer Camp
to Promote Pharmacy, STEM Careers

UH College of Pharmacy will host a three-day "Pharmacy Summer Camp" June 26-28 to encourage traditionally under-represented minorities to pursue careers in pharmacy and other health science and research fields. The program is open to Texas high school students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2013. An information session for parents and high school counselors will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Science & Research Building 2 (room 130) at UH main campus. TMC President & CEO Robbins to Deliver Class of 2013 Commencement Address

robbins-tmc.jpgTexas Medical Center President & Chief Executive Officer Robert C. Robbins, M.D., will serve as the commencement speaker for the UHCOP Class of 2013 graduation ceremony on Friday, May 10. Before he assumed leadership of the TMC in November 2012, Robbins was as a professor and department chairman at Stanford University School of Medicine. Robbins is an internationally recognized cardiac surgeon who has focused his clinical efforts on acquired cardiac diseases with a special expertise in the surgical treatment of congestive heart failure. Comparative Effectiveness Symposium Showcases Student, Faculty Research

UHCOP hosted its first Pharmaceutical Health Services Research Symposium March 29 at UH, which drew more than 80 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty members from across UH and the Texas Medical Center. Four UH Pharmacy Administration doctoral students were recognized with best poster awards among the 33 presentations submitted for the poster session. The event also featured a grant-writing workshop and speakers from UHCOP, UH, The Methodist Hospital Research Institute, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine. Read More.
